We need to know the year, make and model of the bike, your weight, whether you carry luggage or passengers, and the type of riding you normally do. For Twin shocks, please specify what you want the shocks to look like (see our TWIN SHOCKS page). |

|
Q. Can you customize Hagon Monoshocks based on my weight or riding style? A. Yes, but it means ordering a specialy built shock from Hagons in the UK, and a Special Build Surcharge applies. Custom built shocks are $508 for a unit with manual preload adjustment and $669 for a shock with a remote hydraulic preload adjuster. Hagons will advise whether a Special Build unit is necessary based on:
Year make and model of the bike. Please supply VIN number if possible The rider weight Passenger weight and % of time two up Whether saddlebags, tank bag or topbox is fitted, and how much weight is carried in each Anticipated Maximum loading of the bike Style and type of riding
A shock will be custom built to the supplied spec.
Most Hagon monoshocks can also be custom built to LOWER the bike at the seat. Most bikes can be lowered by 30mm at the seat (just over 1")or by 50mm (just under two inches at the seat).
Seat Lowering shocks are $508 for a unit with manual preload adjustment and $669 for a shock with a remote hydraulic preload adjuster. Hagons will need to know your weight, and whether you carry passengers (% of time? Passenger weight?) or luggage (saddlebags? tank bag? top box? loading in each?) and what your maximum loading (passenger/luggage) is likely to be.
Hagon Monoshocks feature adjustable linked compression and rebound damping and adjustable spring preload, allowing the end user to tailor the shock to their own weight and riding preferences. Each Monoshock is designed specifically for the bikes it fits, and is supplied set up with the softest damping and preload recommended for the application. It's always best for the rider to customize the damping and preload adjustment him or herself. We do recommend trying the shock as it comes out of the box before making adjustments, and keeping close track of the adjustments made so that damping and preload can be returned to their original settings if necessary. |

|
Q. Can you get Hagon shocks not listed in your applications guide? A. Absolutely. We are happy to special order any twin shocks or Monoshock not held in stock. Call or click CONTACT US to let us know what you want. |

|
Q. I've lost my Hagon fitting instructions. Can you help? A. HAGONS' INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE BOX
Your Hagon Monoshock will give long and reliable service if fitted correctly.
Before fitting insure all frame parts are in good working order and linkage bearings move freely without excessive play.
Check the unit you have purchased has the correct end fittings for your motorcycles
After fitting check all wires, cable or pipes are clear of the unit.
When fitting Hagon Monoshocks please ensure that mounting bolts are not over-tightened.
We find that a torque wrench setting of 40Nm (approx 30 ft/lbs) gives security without crushing the shock mounting bushes.
Always use "loctite" or similar thread lock on safety critical bolts and nuts.
WARNING: your Hagon shock is pressurised and should not be dismantled.
SPRING PRELOAD ADJUSTMENT
This is best carried out with the shock removed from the bike. -Release the locking grub screw. -Rotate the ring clockwise to increase preload. -Do not exceed 10mm Maximum increase in preload or the spring may shorten. -Retighten the locking grub screw.
DAMPING ADJUSTMENT
Your unit is supplied in it's softest setting which should be ideal for most riders.
-To increase damping turn the hexagon screw clockwise in 1/2 turn increments until required setting is achieved. -When returning to a softer setting (turn anti-clockwise) the unit must be worked before the adjustment will take effect.
DAVE QUINN MOTORCYCLES FITTING INSTRUCTIONS
MOUNT MONOSHOCKS, 2810 SHOCKS AND NITROS ROD DOWN! MAKE SURE THE SPRING IS CENTERED ON THE SHOCK BODY BEFORE FITTING as springs can shift in shipping. When fitting shocks make sure the mounting bolts are not overtightened. a torque wrench setting of 30 ft/lbs gives security without crushing the mounting bushes. Always use Loctite or similar on safety critical nuts and bolts. ADJUSTING YOUR HAGON MONO or NITRO SHOCKS -Shocks are supplied in their softest position (both damping and spring preload). However, ride quality is an individual assesment and Hagons assume you will tune the shock(s) to your liking. DO NOT INCREASE SPRING PRELOAD MORE THAN 10mm (3/8") on manually adjusted monoshocks or Nitro shocks or you risk both distorting the spring and making it too stiff for the damping body to control. 10mm (3/8") is 6.5 complete turns of the adjuster ring. Just because the shock body is threaded more than 10mm DOES NOT mean that you can safely wind the adjuster ring more than 10mm (3/8"). -DO NOT ADJUST SPRING PRELOAD WITHOUT MAKING EQUIVALENT ADJUSTMENTS IN DAMPING. If you increase preload, increase the damping as well. If too much spring preload is applied and the damping is not adjusted to match, the shock body may not adequately control the oscillations of the spring and topping out may occur- this can damage your shock. ADJUST TWIN,NITRO AND 2810 SHOCK IDENTICALLY- Mismatched damping and preload adjustments will compromise ride quality, will wear the shocks unevenly and can be dangerous. FAILURES DUE TO MIS ADJUSTMENT WILL NOT BE WARRANTEED!! ROUTE MONOSHOCK REMOTE ADJUSTER HOSE AWAY FROM HEAT AND CHAFING-Hose failures due to misrouting will not be warranteed.

Q. Can Hagon shocks be rebuilt? A. Hagon Type N monoshocks and Nitro Twin shocks can be rebuilt; Hago Type A and P twin shocks and 2810s cannot be rebuilt.
Rebuilding can be done ONLY by Hagons in the UK, cost is $215 for a monoshock plus postage to the UK charged at cost. It wil take about 2 weeks for the rebuild plus transit time in each direction- please allow 4 to 6 weeks total.
Hagons are reluctant to set up a rebuilder in the US for quality control reasons. As we have had fewer than 10 monoshocks back for rebuilding in over 12 years of US monoshock sales, it makes no economic sense either... |

|
Q. What is Hagons warranty? A. All Hagon shocks have a two year unlimited mileage warranty against failure due to manufacturing defect. If your Hagon shocks fail within two years from the date of your original invoice, they will be replaced free of charge. Replacement shocks may utilise springs, shrouds or other componants from the failed shocks. Please return your shocks in as clean a condition as possible for assesment. Bent shocks due to accident, impact, dropped bike, improper installation or owner malfunction will not be warranteed. We do not warranty the paint on black Type A or P springs.
SHOCKS ARE NOT RETURNABLE ONCE THEY HAVE BEEN FITTED though we will do up to two spring exchanges on Type A or P twin shocks if the original springs are returned in saleable condition. |
